I became involved with British Shorthairs in the mid 1990`S. Chocaulait, a chocolate self female joined our family from my dearest friend Jan Bradley (Sheephouse) and Anne Burnell (Casuals). She has produced some beautiful babies in her career. Two of her daughters, Lizzie and Bliss, will now carry the flag for Romantasy!  Liz made Champion and Bliss has been shown once and awarded 1st, CC and BOB.

My cats are first and foremost my pets/hobby and love of my life.  They are all favourites in some way or another and totally spoilt.   I class them all as my children and I am so privileged to share my life with them.   Romantasy prefix derives from the very beginning when the Romans invaded Britain and bought with them the Shorthair cat, many moons ago.  The rest is HISTORY.

A couple of Romantasy babies have featured in television commercials for the RSPCA and also photo shoots for magazines and children's books.   I am  so very proud of them all.   All my felines including the youngsters are the optimums of health,  sound temperament and classic examples of the breed, making them stand out from the crowd! All are fully vaccinated including Chlamydia.  I also test for Polystistic Kidney Disease (PKD) within the FAB guidelines, FeLV and FIV negative, GCCF and soon also to be TICA registered.

On my Queens page you will see a new breed of feline living alongside the British Shorthairs.  It is an honour to be owned by this wonderful breed that is so unique, divine and full of character, known as the "Cat in Sheeps Clothing" the Selkirk Rex.   Sincere thanks goes to Dee (Catbalu) for making this dream possible.  Over the years I have met some super examples of the breed and will continue to enjoy my hobby alongside like-minded friends, British Shorthairs and Selkirk Rex cats!  I am a Committee member, Stud list Co-Ordinator and Newsletter Editor for the SBSHCC.

My sincere gratitude will always go to Jan for her  continuous  mentoring, help and experience over the years. I owe you Jan  because  without you and the Sheephouse crew,  Romantasy cats would not ` be here today!

I have a strong passion for the Self-Chocolate and Lilac British and other colour combinations especially the Tortie and Bicolour.

I have been specialising in this colour since mid 1990`s. My aim is to sustain the correct tone of both the dominant and dilute versions concentrating on the coat density, soundness and type to the British standard of points.

Like any other colour of British Shorthair, Chocolate and Lilac coats can be unsound in times of moult, feeding and environmental factors. Colour of coat also tends to differ in particular temperatures. This can also play a big part in the correct colour as well as using good bloodlines.

I have been very lucky to have my close friends Jan Bradley (Sheephouse) and Dee Marsland-Round (Catbalu) contributing with their lines and helping to establish the correct tone. Prime example and contributing to excellent colour within the Lilacs is the first Lilac to be crowned Gr Ch Catbalu Harry Potter formerly known as Harry.

I have recently met in the past year British Shorthair breeders in the Netherlands who also have a passion and concentrate on this colour. It has been a real revelation to witness some stunning examples of British Shorthairs with the correct tone, colour and density the Chocolate and Lilac should have.

A couple of links for British Shorthairs in NL can be found on my site.

I am concentrating on pushing back the Colourpoint gene as far as possible within my line. My reason for this is that over the years with past litters I have noticed it to be a trait of unsoundness, with the majority lacking coat density and sound eye colour within the Self-coloured cats. Some Colourpoint British breeders may disagree with my opinion. I have seen some super Colourpoint examples over the years and who have a large gene pool.
